Youth Classes

Helping children make connections and building understanding is an important piece of the education puzzle. Rahr-West Art Museum education staff work to create dynamic, multifaceted, and memorable lessons supported by master artworks in our collection to help students develop creativity, cross-cultural understandings and communication skills. Studying the arts helps improve language skills, problem solving abilities, self-esteem, self-confidence, perseverance, cooperation, teamwork skills and overall academic performance.

PRESCHOOL PANIC

Wednesdays, 10:00 am-11:00 am
Ages 2-5 years
Fee: $5 per class RWAM Members  |  $10 non members

Meet in the front yard of the mansion and read a book related to the project taking place. This class is held outdoors, weather permitting, as it is designed to be messy. Please be sure children are dressed appropriately.

KIDS CLAY CAMPS

Thursdays, 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Ages 6-12 years
Fee: $35 per project RWAM Members  |  $70 non members

Each project in the Kids Clay Camp will focus on building the piece the first week, with glazing the second week. Students may participating in one project or all three.

Use the pinch pot method to create a bowl using clay and use glass marbles to create a pond for a little Koi fish.
Clay Appetizer DishAPPETIZER DISH

Learn the slab method for building pottery and use the bubble techniques for glazing a beautiful appetizer plate.

Using the slab method, students will make and use templates to create a pretty and functional flower bowl.

PURE ENERGY ABSTRACT

This class series will study the Rahr-West's exhibit Pure Energy: Charles Dix and Doris White, two of Wisconsin's most acclaimed abstract expressionists. Students may attend one or all classes.

Young Artists Paper Making ClassPAPER MAKING

Learn the basics of paper making using recycled materials. Students will make their own paper in various colors and textures that they can use for books, journals and more!


Mask Making Mayhem Class

Use your artistic superpowers to create the perfect disguise. Begin by creating a paper mache mask and build on it each week. Participants must attend the first class and at least two others to allow for completion.

ANIME & FANTASY ART DRAWING

Learn to draw characters or mythical creatures like those in your favorite anime or manga. You will also learn the different elements that make up the anime style and how to incorporate them into your art.

August 14 & 21

Learn how to effectively create characters that are interesting and make sense. Whether it's in their design, backstory or setting, you will come out of this class with a character that everyone will love!
