Pharmacy Crime Prevention

History

In September of 2005 a partnership between Manitowoc County Pharmacies, the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Department, the Manitowoc Police Department, the Manitowoc County Health Department and the Manitowoc County Recycling Center was formed. This partnership became known as the Manitowoc County Pharmacy Task Force.

Purpose

The goal of the pharmacy task force is to provide a forum through which pharmacies can work together to prevent crimes involving prescription drugs. In recent years, prescription drug abuse and overdose deaths caused by prescription drugs have risen in Manitowoc. There are troubling signs that people view abusing prescription drugs as safer than illegal drugs and the task force focuses on educating the public regarding this emerging problem.

The task force sponsors several drug collections in various locations throughout Manitowoc County each year. This program allows the public to bring unused drugs to a central location for proper disposal. Help keep Manitowoc safe and clean by participating in the disposal of unused, unneeded, or expired prescription drugs.
