Book and a Movie/“The Glass Castle”

Monday, September 17, 2018

The Glass Castle, a memoir by Jeannette Walls, recounts the hard-scrabble, on-the-fringes, unhinged upbringing the author and her siblings endured at the hands of astonishingly dysfunctional parents. The titular “Glass Castle” refers to her alcoholic father’s dream house, a literal glass castle that he intended to construct on his own. This memoir was turned into a feature film starring Brie Larson, Woody Harrelson, and Naomi Watts. One huge question remains—which version does a better job of putting this riveting, yet unsettling tale before the public: the book or the movie? You’ll have the opportunity to discuss this oft-debated point if you attend Manitowoc Public Library’s “Book and a Movie” at Lakeshore Cinema—1118 Washington Street—on Monday, September 17th at 7 PM. Watch the movie and then participate in the discussion of the book versus the movie that follows. Books can be checked out prior to the screening at Manitowoc Public Library. Admission is FREE!!!
