ICE RINK OPEN FOR THE 2017-2018 SEASON

Ice Rink at Night Dec. 2017

The City of Manitowoc public ice skating rink is now open at the Farmer’s Market parking lot on Quay Street, which adjoins Burger Boat Park.  There is no cost to skate; however, you must bring your own skates as skate rental is not available.

The 2017-2018 ice rink is sponsored by Novak’s Service Center and Keller Structures, who purchased supplies for this year’s rink including “in-ice” lighting around the perimeter of the rink.  A shelter has again been provided by Aspire Real Estate.  In addition, the City of Manitowoc Parks Division has provided a portable toilet, as well as benches and picnic tables around the rink for those wishing to rest or change footwear.

The set-up crew did a great job getting the rink ready for New Year’s weekend as they endured wind-chill temperatures below -20 degrees!  Special thanks go to Karl Koch and the Manitowoc Fire Department, as well as the set-up crew: Doug Schwalbe and son (Keller Structures), Jeremiah Novak (Novak’s Service Center), Barry Nelson (downtown enthusiast), and John Powalisz, Lee Gauthier, J.J. Ploederl, and Chad Scheinoha (City of Manitowoc Department of Public Infrastructure).

At times, the rink may be closed for certain periods due to poor ice conditions or in order to smooth it over with more water.  Signs will be posted when it is closed for these or other reasons.  You can also check out the City of Manitowoc or Manitowoc Recreation Division Facebook pages for updates.
