"Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible." - Doug Lawson
I recently met with Sgt Bruce Jacobs and the members of the Citizens Academy. They are an excitable group who really wants what is best for this department. As they spoke and reminisced about the good times they had when they went through the academy, one thing that stood out for Sgt Jacobs and I was that this was a group that really had a lot of fun during the class. Sgt. Jacobs even commented about how when the meeting started their heads were down and nobody spoke with much excitement in their voice. As the meeting progressed and the good memories came back to them the stories flowed and the laughter was infectious. It was easy to see how the Citizens Academy made an impact on each of their lives. One member said that he is a better citizen and more aware of what is going on around him. He told us that each graduate becomes another set of eyes and ears watching out for our community.
While we try to put together a new 8 session curriculum please consider if you want to help teach the classes. There will be classes on many of the interesting facets of police work such as arrest tactics, interrogations, or OWI procedures. Feel free to speak with Sgt. Jacobs to find out how you can be of help.
Don’t forget to thank a vet on Veterans' Day November 11th. Also, have a Happy Thanksgiving and for you hunters have a safe hunt!

"The best index to a person's character is how he treats people who can't do him any good, and how he treats people who can't fight back."
