MARITIME METRO TRANSIT

FARES

Every time you board a bus you must pay a fare -- or present the driver with an official indication that you have already paid. One fare entitles you to one continuous ride in one direction; with transfers, this will involve riding more than one bus. If you stay on the same bus, your fare entitles you to ride only one complete loop of the route back to the stop where you got on.

Fare Categories:

There are six basic fare categories: Adult, Youth, Freedom Pass, Senior/Disabled, Youth Group, and Children 4 & under.

Adult
This category is designed for individuals between the ages of 18 and 64.

Youth
Individuals qualifying for this fare category are between the ages of 5 and 17.

Freedom Pass
This is offered for youths, ages 5-17 for the months of June through August. To obtain a Freedom Pass the youth must come to the Maritime Metro Transit Center for a photo ID pass.

Senior / Disabled Fare, with proper identification
Maritime Metro's reduced fare for senior citizens (65 and over) and disabled persons requires that the rider show proper identification to the driver every time this special cash fare is paid. Proper identification is a Medicare Card or, for qualified persons not having a Medicare Card, a Maritime Metro Reduced Fare Card. No other identification is accepted. In order to receive a Reduced Fare Card, an application form must be completed. Click here to print an application form. Reduced Fare Cards / application forms can be obtained at either Maritime Metro Transit office.

Youth group
Maritime Metro Transit is a great way to travel around on a field trip in Manitowoc and Two Rivers with your class or club. The children have an opportunity to learn about our public bus system while riding to their destination. Although, we cannot offer charter service, we can get your group safely to any destination along our fixed routes.

Traveling by bus with your class or group is as economical as it is fun. The group rate (for groups of 8 or more) for a one-way ride is JUST 50¢ for children under 18 and their chaperones. We only ask that you make a reservation for your group by calling in with the following information:

  • The name of your group
  • Your name and daytime phone number
  • Date of the trip
  • Number of riders 17 & under and number of chaperones
  • Boarding time and pick-up stop
  • Destination stop
  • Return information

For reservations or for more information, just call us at 683-4560.

Children 4 & under
Up to four children, age 4 and under, ride free when accompanied by a fare-paying rider. This special category is designed for mothers, siblings and sitters with infants or toddlers. This special fare is not available to preschool, daycare, or playgroups, etc on field trips.

Methods of Payment:

For each fare category, there are a number of payment options.

  • Cash: Any Maritime Metro fare may be paid in cash. Only U.S. coins or bills are acceptable. Metro asks that all cash fares be paid using exact change, since our drivers do not carry change for security and timeliness reasons.

  • Metro Money Cards: Monthly Metro Money Cards are one of Maritime Metro's two forms of pre-paid fares. Metro Money Cards are good for an unlimited number of rides during the calendar month for which they are issued and are made available for the frequent rider. You simply show your Metro Money Card to the driver each time you board a bus. Because Metro Money Cards are good for an unlimited number of rides, cardholders do not need transfer tickets. In addition, you can save even more money when you buy a card by receiving special offers or discounts at local businesses when you present your Metro Money Card.

  • Tickets: Tickets are made available for the occasional rider, at a cost below the standard cash fare. Tickets do not expire, and therefore may be used at anytime but must be purchased in quantities of ten.

Transfers:

When your one-way trip requires riding more than one bus, and you have paid your fare in cash or by ticket, you will need a transfer to present to the driver on the subsequent bus to let him know that you have already paid your fare. You should request a transfer at the time of boarding, not at the time of departure. Metro Money Card users do not get transfers but simply show their Metro Money Cards again when they board the next bus. In some instances, a rider may have to transfer more than once on a one-way trip and will then need to get another transfer ticket when presenting the original one to the second bus driver. (No one-way trip will require riding more than three buses).

A transfer entitles you to one continuous ride in a single direction. It must be used on the next connecting bus. It does not include a layover privilege (ie., you cannot leave to go shopping, etc.), and it is not a round-trip ticket. Should your connecting bus be running late, transfer tickets will be honored.

When requesting a transfer, it is a good idea to tell the driver the route to which you will be transferring. In the event the bus is running late, the driver can radio your connecting bus to inform it that you will be riding. While Metro strives to ensure connections for transfers, we cannot guarantee them.

When transferring, move along quickly. Even if your first bus is late pulling in, the driver can only wait five minutes past the scheduled departure time. To wait any longer would cause the bus to be out of schedule with the other routes for the rest of the day.
