Dewey Street Reconstruction
(S. 26th Street to 400' West of S. 39th Street)
The project area extends from S. 26th Street to approximately 400' West of S. 39th Street. The purpose of the project is to replace the deteriorated pavement structure that has reached the end of its service life and to address sub-base water issues with the installation of the perforated draintile.
The start date is July 18th and the completion date is scheduled for September 30th, 2016.

Then, the grading crew will continue to remove all of the existing concrete pavement on the south side of the road
between S. 26th and S. 30th St.
West bound traffic on Dewey Street will be detoured at S. 26th Street and proceed north on S. 26th Street to Marshall/Calumet Intersection and then westbound on Calumet Avenue back to Dewey Street.
Current Work (Construction Update)
Week of September 19th:
Vinton intends to start pouring driveways and intersections.
Week of September 12th:
2nd side is paved.
Week of September 5th:
Vinton intends to place concrete pavement on the north side of Dewey St. during this week.
Week of August 29th:
Vinton plans to switch traffic over to the new concrete pavement at the beginning of the project
(to the west of South 39th St).
This will be the start of Phase 2 of the project or the construction of the north half of Dewey St.
Week of August 26th:
Vinton plans to switch traffic over to the new concrete pavement beginning at South 30th St. This will allow
them to start breaking the concrete pavement on the north side of Dewey St. from S. 26th St. to South 30th St.
Week of August 15th:
Due to the reconstruction of Dewey Street and the installation of the concrete pavement on the south side of the road,
both South 30th Street and South 35th Street will be closed to cross traffic starting on Monday, August 15th
It is anticipated that these 2 intersections will be closed for approximately the next 2 weeks. Please find alternate
routes to and from your destination.
Week of August 1st:
Vinton’s crews will be working to get the south side of the road prepared for the concrete paving.
They will be setting the string line, trimming or fine grading the gravel base and placing the dowel baskets.
The concrete paving is scheduled for some time the week of August 8th.
Week of July 25th:
Vinton’s crews are working on the installation of the draintile pipe on the south side of the street.
In addition, the grading crew is taking out a portion of the existing concrete pavement on the south side of the street from S. 35th to S. 39th Street so that the sewer crew can install the draintile pipe.
Week of July 18, 2016:
The crews are installing draintile on the north side of Dewey Street from South 26th to South 35th Street.
