Development Zone Program
Development Zone Program
Manitowoc has been one of Wisconsin's Development Zones since 1989. This program offers capital and employment-related tax credits to companies locating and investing in a zone. The program provides the following tax credits:

Environmental Remediation Tax Credit
The tax credit is equal to 50% of the amount expended for environmental remediation of property in a development zone. The credit can be used for the removal or containment of environmental pollution, and restoration of soil or groundwater that is affected by environmental pollution.

Jobs Tax Credit
This tax credit is for the hiring of targeted and non-targeted workers. The amount of the tax credit is based on the wage level paid to the qualified employee. To qualify for this credit, the individual must receive pay that is equal to or exceeds the following:

Amount of Tax Credit  Qualifying Wage Levels
 $3,000 / job  $9.75 - $12.99 / hour
 $5,000 / job  $13.00 - $16.24 / hour
 $6,500 / job  $16.25 + / hour

A company will have 3 years to reach this wage level, and will be able to claim no more than 25% of the credit in year 1, 25% in year 2, and a final 50% in year 3 of the credit. Additional information is available at the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.
