The Department of Public Works plans, administers, directs and budgets Public Works activities for the City of Manitowoc. This includes all phases of municipal engineering, public construction projects, and the operation and maintenance of infrastructure within the public right-of-way.
It is a multi-faceted department with a 2009 budget of approximately 19 million dollars and 15 million dollars in revenue. The net expense of 4 million dollars funds 5 divisions with a staff of 90 FTE technical, clerical, professional and skilled personnel.
The five divisions that comprise the Department of Public Works are:
- Evergreen and Evergreen West Cemeteries
- Fleet, Bridges, and Buildings
- Streets and Sewer Operation and Maintenance
- Maritime Metro Transit
- Engineering
