IntroductionThe Manitowoc Parks and Recreation Department began updating the Manitowoc Recreation and Open Space Plan in November, 2002. The Parks and Recreation Committee made up of five elected officials along with the Parks and Recreation staff decided to update the plan by conducting a series of Public Input sessions. Four different sessions will be held in various sections of Manitowoc in January and February, 2003. The Manitowoc Planning Department is providing technical assistance with mapping and reviewing various aspects of the plan. The updated plan will identify long-term needs for parks, recreation, open space, and trail acquisition and development and propose recommendations to obtain funding for each of them. Additionally, it will allow the City to remain eligible for State and Federal grants. The plan update is scheduled for completion in the Spring of 2003. For more information regarding this plan update, please contact Joe McLafferty, Recreation and Parks Director, Manitowoc Parks and Recreation Department at (920) 683-4530. Top
Opportunities for Public Input TopThe Committee is extremely interested in getting feedback from Citizens of Manitowoc on the Parks, Recreation, Open Space, and Trails Plan. Therefore, four different public input sessions will be held throughout the City of Manitowoc. Each section represents a quadrant of the City and residents of that area have an opportunity to give their opinion on park maintenance, recreational opportunities, park acquisition and development, open space possibilities, and trail enhancements proposed for 2003 to 2008.
