Become an Official, Score Keeper or AttendantThe Manitowoc Parks & Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for youth basketball officials, score keepers and building attendants. You can apply in person at the department's main office at Citizen Park, 930 North 18th Street. For more information on any of the requirements of the above positions or the work schedule, please contact Jeremy Crees by E-mail at jcrees@manitowoc.org or by telephone at (920)683-4533. Note: The Manitowoc Parks & Recreation Department conducts criminal background checks on all volunteer coaches and employees. Return to the Top of the Youth Basketball Page
Free AgentsThe Department maintains a free agent list for youth basketball. Individuals who would like to play, but do not have a team to play on can register by printing off and filling out the Player Registration Form:
Then just return the form, with the fee, to the Parks & Recreation Department at 930 North 18th Street, Manitowoc, WI 54220 by the registration deadline above. Placing a name on the list does not guarantee that the player will be placed on a team. The list will be used by coaches looking to add players to their teams. If a significant number of players fall into the same group (ie. 5th grade boys) the department will facilitate the creation of a new team. Only a two-thirds affirmative vote of the league’s coaches and Manitowoc Parks & Recreation Department approval will grant the release. 4. The Manitowoc Parks & Recreation Department will notify the player and the player’s current team of the results of the vote prior to the team’s first practice. 5. The Manitowoc Parks & Recreation Department reserves the right to deny any player release. 6. Released players will become free-agent players and will be subject to placement via the free-agent placement policy.
Sponsor a TeamBecome a youth basketball team sponsor. The extent of commitment is up to you. A sponsor could assist players with individuals fees ($34.00/player), purchase T-shirts for the team (ten to fifteen kids), and/or provide a ball or two for the team to practice with. Other sponsorship items might include additional practice balls, tournament entries, shorts, end of the season parties, weekly refreshments, providing coaches, etc. For more information on becoming a team sponsor, please contact Jeremy Crees by E-mail at jcrees@manitowoc.org or by telephone at (920)683-4533. Become a CoachOne way to get involved and to ensure that the kids have a great experience with basketball is to become a coach. Coaches in our program are volunteers and do not necessarily have to be experienced coaches. We train coaches through an extensive coaches' clinic. We are also working on a youth sports resource center to be found during the season at the Manitowoc Public Library. Note: The Manitowoc Parks & Recreation Department conducts criminal background checks on all volunteer coaches and employees. Criminal Background Check Form If interested in coaching, please contact the Recreation Supervisor at 920-683-4533 or jcrees@manitowoc.org . Return to the Top of the Youth Basketball Page
