The Manitowoc Regional X-Sports CompleX, a vision in the making over the past 10 years, is now coming to fruition thanks to many corporate and community members of Manitowoc County.
Designed and developed with the users in mind, consideration was given to the various skill levels and age ranges of BMX bikers, inline skaters, skateboarders, and scooter users. This complex will allow these wheeled-sports athletes the opportunity to begin or further enhance their skills.
The 20,000 sq. ft facility will be located at Dewey Street Park. Citizens for Skateboarding - Manitowoc Chapter, Inc. (CFSMC), the 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation responsible for fundraising the entire cost of the facility, has contracted with TrueRide -- home of the industry's finest skateparks -- to consturct $170,000 worth of skatepark equipment. The treated -wood ramps will be covered with Skatelite Pro, a supreme riding surface for outdoor skateparks. This material is weatherproof, withstands the punishment inflicted by determined riders, and provides the smoothest riding surface for these wheeled athletes. The X-Sports CompleX will also feature a cloverleaf-shaped concrete bowl.
The X-Sports CompleX will be part of a multipurpose park, which will also include ball diamonds, soccer fields, and the proposed aquatic center. This facility will provide a variety of physical activities for our youth.
CFSMC has also contracted with local architectural firm, Bamco Architects, Inc. to assist CFSMC and take the project through to completion.
Benefits, educational demonstrations, and multi-level competitions will be held to help with maintenance and future expansion.
