COVID-19 Update

The City Attorney's Office is open during regular business hours, but is scheduling meetings by appointment only during the COVID-19 pandemic. Please make an appointment prior to coming in to make sure that staff are available to serve you. Virtual meetings are also available upon request.

All pretrial conferences are being held by phone.

Responsibilities


The City Attorney serves as legal counsel to all City departments, the Mayor, and the Common Council, representing the City's interests in negotiations and drafting legislation and policy. The office also represents the city in legal matters before courts, agencies, or judicial bodies. The office is staffed by City Attorney Kathleen McDaniel, Assistant City Attorney Liz Majerus, and Paralegal Jane Rhode. The City Attorney cannot give legal advice to members of the public or local businesses.
