Our local lakes and rivers are freshwater not salt water. Limiting the amount of salt and sand used to remove ice will benefitr local waters and protect the plants and animals that rely on them. Do your part to limit the amount used on your sidewalk and driveway by following these simple steps.
- Shovel often and early -- the quicker you get the snow off the pavement the less chance there is of it getting packed down by traffic
- Clean up the excess -- Clean up excess salt and sand once the pavement is clear of snow and ice. You can use this material the next time it snows.
- Remove it first -- Remove as much snow and ice as you can before placing salt or sand. This limits the amount needed.
