Fair housing is a policy in the City of Manitowoc for the residents and property owners in the City. It is the policy of the State of Wisconsin (Wis. Stat. § 106.50) and the City of Manitowoc (Section 14.850 of the Manitowoc Municipal Code), pursuant to the United States and Wisconsin constitutions and also its power to protect the public health, safety and general welfare, that all persons regardless of sex, race, color, physical condition, disability as defined in Wis. Stat. § 106.50(1m)(g), sexual orientation as defined in Wis. Stat. § 111.32(13m), religion, national origin, marital status, family status as defined in Wis. Stat. § 106.50(1m)(k), status as a victim of domestic abuse, sexual assault, stalking, lawful source of income, age or ancestry, are entitled to fair, open and equal access to housing.
Any person who feels that he or she is being discriminated against based on one or more of the above criteria may file a complaint alleging discriminatory practice in the rental, purchase or lease of any housing or housing accommodations.
