Erin Labonte's 'Chameleon' Exhibition, our Best of ARTsplash exhibit, hangs in the Lounge Gallery through August 10. LaBonte’s recent body of work takes art to the street while traveling Mexico with a friend, Ellen Dizzia, the two surreptitiously became collaborators. Unsatisfied with the tourist’s role as spectator, the artist and her model actively became part of the architecture. The two were inspired by the country’s colorful, unchoreographed walls and murals and a conversation developed about LaBonte painting Dizzia onto those very walls. The conversation turned into creation; “Chameleon” became art. ARTsplash is an annual art showcase featuring local artists in downtown storefronts. Sponsored by the Mainly Manitowoc downtown organization, and funded in part by the Wisconsin Arts Board, the 2013. series included a juried contest granting the winning artist this exclusive exhibition at the Rahr-West Art Museum.
