Addiction. A single word that instantaneously causes so many emotions and concerns to instantaneously bubble to the surface. The film, starring Steve Carrell, Timothee Chalamet, Maura Tierney, and Amy Ryan—which focuses on the increasingly-strained relationship between a father & son due to the son’s methamphetamine addiction—is actually based on a pair of memoirs: “Beautiful Boy: A Father’s Journey Through His Son’s Addiction,” by David Sheff, and “Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines,” by Nic Sheff. One huge question remains—which version does a better job of putting this tale before the public: the books or the movie? You’ll have the opportunity to discuss this oft-debated point if you attend Manitowoc Public Library’s “Book and a Movie” at Lakeshore Cinema—1118 Washington Street—on Monday, October 21 at 7 PM. Watch the movie & then participate in the discussion of the book versus the movie that follows. Books can be checked out prior to the screening at Manitowoc Public Library.
