“Unbroken” is the biography of World War II hero, Louis Zamperini, written by best-selling author, Laura Hillenbrand. After a near-fatal plane crash in the Pacific during WWII, former Olympian Zamperini spent a harrowing forty-seven days in a raft with two fellow crewmen before being captured by the Japanese navy and sent to a three brutal prisoner-of-war camps for a period of two-and-a-half years. It is also the name of the feature film adaptation of the Hillenbrand novel directed by Angelina Jolie. One huge question remains—which version does a better job of putting this tale before the public: the book or the movie? You’ll have the opportunity to discuss this oft-debated point if you attend Manitowoc Public Library’s “Book and a Movie” at Lakeshore Cinema—1118 Washington Street—on Monday, January 20 at 7 PM. Watch the movie and then participate in the discussion of the book versus the movie that follows. Books can be checked out prior to the screening at Manitowoc Public Library.
