The City of Manitowoc received a $369,400 Knowles-Nelson grant and $100,000 from the West Foundation to develop a public trail system in the new Bayshore Development. The developers of the property donated almost 11 acres of property to remain in conservancy/parkland.  (The remainder of the funds for the project came from the TIF District, which supports development on the site.)  The project will include PUBLIC paved trails with lighting, fishing stations, and a kayak launch.  A bridge over the Little Manitowoc River connecting the trail to the Lincoln Park Zoo is already in place.  The goal of this project is to connect the Mariners Trail along the lakefront to Lincoln Park and the Zoo.
